CEBA Christmas Break 2011

Hi, the CEO and Committee of CEBA are taking a well earned break for a few days between Christmas and New Year to recharge our batteries.

We'll be back 9th of January 2012 to start on the many projects that are already in progress for 2012 including the CEBA Small Business Awards.

Life Member presentation at CEBA AGM

Our last function of the 40th year of the association was held at the Mt Lawley Golf Course. At this years CEBA AGM a special vote was held for a new Life Member.

A short list of candidates was compiled by the Life Member Trustees and they nominated Karen Hackett, long serving member of CEBA and dedicated committee member who was then presented with the Life Member Award.

CEBA Charity Lawn Bowls winners

In a keenly fought contest JJ's Gas became the latest winner of the CEBA Charity Lawn Bowl Cup at the Bedford Lawn Bowl Club . Friendly competition, great conversation and a fantastic Perth evening made this another excellent CEBA event. JJ's gas will fill the last remaining spot on our current trophy so look out for a new one next year.

Part proceeds from the silent auction will go to charity again this year and people are already looking forward to next year's event.

Thanks to all the auction item sponsors and EZY Plus in Inglewood for their support of this years event.

Thanks also to Kevin and John from the Bedford Bowling Club for their coordination and help in making the eveninig successful.

Bedford Bowling Club now have Tuesday and Wednesday evening corporate bowls night - so if you fancy some regular light exercise call John Whinchup at the club

CEBA Annual General Meeting - 6th Dec. 2011

The CEBA 2011 AGM will be held at the Mt Lawley Golf Course on Tuesday 6th December (hopefully a date that won't conflict with your other end of year events)

As it's one of our major events for the year it's sure to be a fitting end to our 40th year celebrations

We have been fortunate enough to secure Rick Hart, a retail leader in our State, with many interesting life experiences to be our guest speaker. It promises to be an entertaining lunch. And speaking of lunch, you can download the menu, which should convince you to be there.

Don't forget to bring a valued client or staff member.

What better way to spend a couple of hours, than celebrating our 40 years of involvement with the small business community of our locality.

Sad News - Dave "Ossie" Oswald

We have been saddened to learn of the passing of “ Ossie “, a founding and Life Member of our business Association. A true character, always with a smile on his face and a joke at the ready,

Dave Oswald was the proprietor of Morley Park Panel prior to his retirement to Mandurah. His funeral is 3.30pm tomorrow, at Karakatta.

He was passionate about our business group, connecting people in both a trading and social sense.

“Ossie “ has left his mark on our 40 year history. For those who had a lot to do with him, one of his favourite sayings, that will remain with us, was : “you bend em, we mend em“

A great bloke, gone but not forgotten.

CEBA Afterhours @ The Rise with Dr Kim Hames Deputy Premier

As our 40th Year celebrations continue we are proud to announce the next CEBA afterhours function will be at the new Rise multipurpose building in Maylands with Dr Kim Hames Deputy Premier on the 8th November. As a prior member of the business association and a previous Councillor of the City of Baywater he will share some of his recollections of the days gone by.

Dr Kim Hames is currently the Deputy Premier of Western Australia with responsibility over the portfolios of Health and Tourism and also has a special coordinating role for the Kimberley region.

This year will mark his 15th as an elected Member of Parliament, being elected as the member for Dianella (1993-96) and later Yokine (1996-01). He was elected as the Member for Dawesville in 2005 which is a seat he still holds.

We encourage all members to attend this function and register with Peter Gardner at the CEBA office as soon as possible to help with the catering figures.

CEBA Charity Lawn Bowls night 25th Nov

Once again our Charity Lawn Bowls evening isn't far away - it will be held on Friday 25th November at the Bedford Lawn Bowls Club. ProCopy's Second Team will be there to defend their win from 2010 and everyone is invited to take part in this fun night out.

Postal Voting City of Bayswater Elections for Businesses

Businesses located within The City of Bayswater can apply for postal voting before the 2011 Local Government Election being held on Saturday, 15 October. This is a great way to have your say in the area where you do business. Check under clause 12 of Schedule 9.3 of the Local Government Act 19957. to see if you are an eligible business. Although in part the act states:

"To qualify as an occupier you must have a right, under a lease, tenancy agreement or other legal instrument, to be in continuous occupation of the property for at least the next 3 months. A copy of your lease or tenancy agreement will be required to be submitted with your Enrolment Eligibility Claim Form."

You will need to call the City of Bayswater for an Election package or call in to the City of Baywater Office.To make sure your vote counts you must register on the electoral roll before 5.00pm on Friday 26 of August.

The WA Electoral Commission has appointed a Returning Officer to co-ordinate the postal election. The Returning Officer will also be available to offer advice to prospective Councillors at a free Regional Prospective Councillor Workshop being held on Saturday 20 August, in the City of Swan's Midland Town Hall.

Details of the Workshop and other Local Government Election information can be obtained by phoning the Civic Centre on 9272 0614, or by visiting the City's website www.bayswater.wa.gov.au.

Local Businesses Southern Financial Strategies won this years Gold Award presented by Mayor of Bayswater Cr. Terry Kenyon. Runner up Renewable Logic.
